Run, Elizabeth, Run

My heart is more interested in social justice issues than environmental ones.

In recent years however, my head has been telling me that things like justice and equality aren't going to matter much if we continue down the path to ecological destruction.

So when Elizabeth May, leader of Canada's Green Party came to Pelham a while back I was  interested enough to go and hear what she had to say.

I was impressed.

By the woman as much as by what she had to say.

I decided to see if there was a place for me in the Green Party.

I was pleased to find out that Social Justice is one of its main tenets.

And so I became a party member.

In the past few years my admiration for Elizabeth May has grown exponentially.

For the Green Party not so much.

I haven't renewed my membership yet.

I have been playing around with the idea that perhaps my Federal vote would be best placed with the Liberals.

Yawn.

"If only Elizabeth May was leader of the Federal Liberals," I thought to myself.

I googled 'Elizabeth May as leader of the Liberal Party' and found out I wasn't the only person who imagined mixing oil and water.

(Bad analogy, but you know what I mean.)

Not gonna happen, I know.

Too many egos in both parties to make the necessary compromises

but jeesh

if she brought the Greens with her

that would be one kickass political party.

I am bad for not following politics - at all! It's always like someone left the cages open at the zoo and all the animals somehow made their way to the same room. I have to agree with your reasoning of late though - if we don't take care of our world, all the other issues will seem small by comparison.

I really like her too...i watched her debate a few years ago when she fought to be included in the debates for the federal election. She impressed me the most.I'm waiting to see what will happen at the Liberal leadership race. I also really like Nathan Cullen.

Yes, I agree the House of Commons does too often seem as if all the animals have made their way to the same room. Elizabeth May has often spoken out against the disrespect and ridiculous behaviour shown by some MPs.

I will watch for Nathan Cullen then, because I'm not at all familiar with him.

The Liberals? Aichihuahua. Why not Thomas Mulcair and the NDP?

The NDP aren't the NDP anymore and I don't see that the Unions are going to be strong enough much longer to protect working people. Has to be another way.

Francie, it is so true! Today I was reading about the melting of glaciers and how it's increasing the poisoning by mercury of the oceans... I feel sad and like you, I am starting to shift from being very political to being more conscious about the planet I live in...

Now that I've finally stopped laughing at Jane's comment, I can write something.

I'm terrible with politics; I really don't keep up as much as I probably should, but I am so tired of all the stupid politicians that keep surfacing. No one has gotten my attention. And certainly not my respect. I'm not sure where to go next, but I do agree that we should care about our world.
